Holiday Case of Buyer’s Remorse Cured by $200,000 Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (November 22, 2013) – Driving home from the mall, a Landrum man started to feel guilty about the generous Christmas gift he bought himself. He thought a $2 lottery ticket might change his mood.

He rarely plays the Lottery, but the Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, a quick pick (7, 14, 20, 36 and 37), he bought at the Murphy USA on E. Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greer wound up winning him $200,000 last weekend.

“I don’t know how or why it happened,” he said. “I took a chance and it worked out.”

With his Christmas wish granted, he’s spending the winnings on his wife, daughter and son, who he jokes wouldn’t let him out of their sight when he told them the news.

“It took my breath away too,” he said.

Spending the extra buck to Power-Up doubled their $100,000 prize to $200,000.

Odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.

For selling the claimed ticket, Murphy USA #7132 received a commission of $2,000.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.2 billion transferred to support education.
