Beaufort Man Wins More Than He Thought
10/20/2016 1:34:07 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (October 20, 2016) – A Beaufort man was happy he won $250, only that’s not what he won.

It was actually $250,000.

“I had to sit down,” the winner said when he realized.

And he sat for quite a while—two hours contemplating the win.

The winner told lottery officials he was filling up his car at the Amoco Food Shop on Boundary St. in Beaufort when he decided to run in and buy the Emerald 9s scratch-off.

“I’ve been fortunate in life,” he told lottery officials when he cashed in the ticket.

He’s sharing the prize money with his family.

Four top prizes of $250,000 remain in the $10 Emerald 9s game. The odds of winning $250,000 are 1 in 700,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Amoco Food Shop in Beaufort received a commission of $2,500.
