COLUMBIA, SC (February 19, 2018) – A lottery player in the Upstate, who won $200,000 on Valentine’s Day, is looking forward to spending more quality time with his wife.

“She’s going to retire sooner than she thought,” the winner said.

And she’s excited about that gift shared the happy husband.

To celebrate his Palmetto Cash 5 win and his wife’s sooner than expected retirement, he’s bringing home Chinese food. Fitting, since it was the numbers on the back of a fortune cookie that won the couple the cash.

“My wife eats the fortune cookies,” explained the winner. “And I save our fortunes.”

He plays the lucky numbers on the back of the fortune cookie in the Lottery. He says he’s gone as far as digging the tiny slips of paper out of the trash when his wife’s thrown them away.

The winner, who lives next door in North Carolina, crosses into South Carolina to buy tickets every a week. He bought the winning ticket in Chesnee at the Scotchman #3854 where he played 6, 8, 20, 26, and 31. He Powered-Up his ticket to increase his $100,000 prize to $200,000 when a 2x multiplier was drawn.

“I just play to play,” he said. “I’m going to have to change those numbers.”

The odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.

For selling the claimed ticket, Scotchman #3854 in Chesnee received a commission of $2,000.
