Sleepy, but Happy, Sumter Man Cashes in $1 Million Win
9/20/2018 11:22:22 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (September 20, 2018) – Crazy and emotional, that’s how a Sumter man describes winning $1 million playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.

“I cried,” he told lottery officials when he realized how much he won.

He purchased the winning ticket from the American Grocery & Liquor Store on Broad St. in Sumter. He says he sat in his car outside the store’s parking lot clutching the Million Dollar Multiplier ticket to his chest waiting for his heart to settle back down.

The millionaire hasn’t gotten slept much since it happened either, saying, “I wake up thinking: ‘Wow, I just won $1 million.’”

And he’s been thinking of ways to spend his million-dollar winnings too. A car, a house, gifts for his family are a few options he’s toyed with, but he’ll likely save most of it.

“I’m going to use it wisely and take it easy,” he said.

One top prize of $1 million remains in the Million Dollar Multiplier game at odds of 1 in 1.6 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, American Grocery & Liquor Store on Broad St. in Sumter received a commission of $10,000.
Players can enter their non-winning Million Dollar Multiplier tickets into a second-chance drawing for a chance to win an additional $1 million prize. For complete details on the Extreme Millions Second-Chance Drawing, please visit sceducationlottery.com.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 1.8 million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $5 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
