Sumter Family Wins $250,000 on Way to Buy Fireworks
1/3/2019 2:26:26 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (January 3, 2019) – A Sumter family rang in the New Year with a $250,000 lottery win and fancy fireworks to prove it.

The dad was on his way to buy fireworks when he stopped and bought the winning lottery ticket at McCarthys Emporium LLC on the Camden Hwy. in Dalzell.

“I hyperventilated,” he said. “And I called my wife at work.”

“I thought he was joking,” his wife said when he told he what happened. But when she got home that evening his choice of fireworks convinced her.

“He got the good ones,” she said.

Four top prizes of $250,000 remain in the ($10) $250,000 Wild Cherries game, at odds of 1 in 700,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, McCartys Emporium LLC in Dalzell received a commission of $2,500.
