Columbia Man Leaves Work to Cash in Powerball® Win
3/29/2019 2:55:20 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (March 29, 2019) – A Columbia man was sitting at work when he checked his Powerball® ticket and decided to take a few hours off.

“I left work,” he said.

Then he drove to the Lottery’s Claims Center to cash in a $150,000 winning ticket.

His ticket matched four of the first five white ball numbers drawn and the red Powerball® number (16, 20, 37, 44, 62 and Powerball®: 12). As a result of paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay®, his $50,000 winnings became $150,000 when a “3” was drawn.

“I can really live and then help the people that helped me,” he said. “I’m going right back to work.”

The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. Purchasing PowerPlay® multiplied the $50,000 prize to $150,000. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.23, when the jackpot is over $150 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, Karatu in Cayce received a commission of $1,500.

The estimated jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball® drawing is $40 million.
