COLUMBIA, SC (July 16, 2024) – Clemson University has captured the 2023-24 Palmetto Series trophy.
The Tigers won this year’s head-to-head points competition against South Carolina by a final score of 7-6. The Tigers bested the Gamecocks in men’s soccer, football, men’s basketball, baseball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, and claimed the point for the most Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipients to claim the title.
“We know how important all victories against South Carolina are to our fans, our community and our department,” said Clemson Director of Athletics Graham Neff. “We are privileged to be in a state with such a competitive rivalry in many athletic and academic areas, and we know how much pride our state has for our higher education institutions and our athletic programs. We look forward to the opportunity to defend our title next year as we embark on the 50th year of varsity women’s athletics at Clemson.”
The trophy will be presented to Clemson University during the football game against Appalachian State on September 7.
The Palmetto Series is sponsored by the South Carolina Education Lottery.
“We congratulate the Tigers and the Gamecocks on an outstanding year of competition,” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Dolly Garfield. “I circle these games on my calendar, like a lot of South Carolinians do, because this great rivalry never disappoints. Fans of both schools have much to cheer about.”
The Palmetto Series points chase began in August and wrapped up in May. Points were given to the winner of each meeting between the two schools. And points were also awarded to the school with the most lottery scholarship recipients and for the most entries in the Lottery’s Carolina vs. Clemson promotion. The final scoring is below:
