COLUMBIA, SC (June 15, 2009) – Uncle Sam took his share, but an Anderson woman still walked out of the Greenville Claims Center with a $100,000 check.
"I didn't believe I had won," Bonnie Cain said after scratching the $5 Instant Carolina 5 ticket. The lucky player scored a top prize of $100,000 taxes paid. The prize is structured to include state and federal taxes leaving $100,000 after taxes are deducted.
Cain bought her ticket at Liberty Crossing, located at 4536 Liberty Highway, in Anderson. The retailer who sells a claimed ticket worth more than $10,000 received a one percent selling bonus. Liberty Crossing received a $1,470 bonus.
Since the Lottery's inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
