COLUMBIA, SC (March 6, 2026) The South Carolina Education Lottery has helped a Myrtle Beach man pay for his college education, first with a scholarship and now with a big lottery win.

This week he accepted a $30,000 prize won in a second-chance drawing and told lottery officials he’ll be putting the winnings toward his student loans. The University of South Carolina graduate previously benefited from a lottery-funded LIFE scholarship.

“It’s kind of nuts,” he said, describing what it was like to find out a ticket he’d entered online was drawn as a winner. “This definitely helps out.”

The Grand Strand man won in a February 19 drawing when his lottery ticket was selected from the more than 420,000 entries received in the Magic 8 Ball™ Second-Chance Promotion. The promotion allowed players to enter their winning and non-winning $3 Magic 8 Ball™ scratch-offs for a chance to win $30,000.
