Clean$weep Offers Players a Chance to Reduce Litter and Win Cash by Mailing in Non-Winning Tickets

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolinians can show their pride and help keep South Carolina clean by participating in the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) and PalmettoPride’s yearlong initiative aimed at taking action against litter. Today, the two organizations launched Clean$weep, a new effort that encourages South Carolinians to help reduce the amount of litter by submitting their non-winning instant game tickets for a chance to win a cash prize.

“We’re excited about expanding our current anti-litter efforts and working together with PalmettoPride to help beautify our state,” said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL executive director. “Clean$weep is a great opportunity to encourage South Carolinians to be environmentally responsible while having fun.”

By submitting five non-winning tickets, entrants have the chance to win in the Clean$weep second-chance drawing. Each month, SCEL will draw 100 entries and award each winning entrant $50.

“Clean$weep is a statewide cleanup effort designed to promote action, responsibility and pride,” said Sen. David Thomas, chairman of PalmettoPride. “Together with the South Carolina Education Lottery, we’ll continue our efforts to eradicate litter and help keep South Carolina a clean and beautiful place to live or visit.”

To participate in the Clean$weep second-chance drawings, entrants must at least 18 years old and collect five non-winning instant game tickets in any combination. Entrants must fill in the back of all five tickets with their name, signature and complete address and phone number. Once completed, the non-winning tickets should be placed in an envelope and mailed to the SCEL or dropped into a Clean$weep receptacle. Each envelope counts as one entry and is good for only second-chance drawing. More than five qualifying tickets in an envelope will not count as multiple entries.

Beginning July 30, Clean$weep drawings will be held on the last Wednesday of each month. There will be a total of 12 second-chance drawings, scheduled to end June 30, 2004. To be entered in the monthly drawings, qualifying tickets must be received by the SCEL no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday before the Wednesday drawing.

Entries may be mailed to the South Carolina Education Lottery at P.O. Box 11488 Columbia, S.C. 29211 or dropped off at Clean$weep receptacles at various promotional events across the state.
