SCEL nets over $19,000,000 in tickets sales

Columbia, SC:  The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) is pleased to report the results of its inaugural week of operations which ended on January 13, 2002.  To date, 3,293 retailers are licensed to sell lottery tickets statewide.  A total of 4,131 retailers have applied to the SCEL for lottery licenses.

Below you will find the financial activity for last week numbers:

• Number of ticket packs ordered by retailers – 151,442
    • Dollar value of ticket packs ordered by retailers - $45,432,600

    • Number of ticket packs activated and selling – 81,279
    • Dollar value of ticket packs activated and selling - $24,383,700

    • Number of individuals claiming prizes – 3,010,098 (attachment Sch 1)
    • Dollar value of prizes paid - $10,839,767 (attachment Sch 1)

*     Estimated sales on Launch Day, January 7, 2002 - $1,883,148

*     Estimated sales for the 7 days ending January 13, 2002 - $19,126,676 (attachment Sch 2, includes country breakdown)

*These numbers are based on an estimate of winning ticket validations in each pack. The source is Scientific Games International. The SCEL believes this is a reasonable method of estimating sales based on standard industry practices.  These numbers reflect business through the close of Sunday, January 13, 2002.
