COLUMBIA, SC (September 18, 2020) – A West Columbia Powerball® player rolled out of bed $100,000 richer. The winner says he checked his Powerball® ticket when he woke up and couldn’t believe the result.
He came within one number of securing a Powerball® jackpot.
His quick pick ticket purchased from the Palm Pantry #33 on Platt Springs Rd. in West Columbia matched four of the first five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number (1, 4, 11, 20, 69 and Powerball® 18) drawn on Wednesday, September 2. As a result of paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay®, his $50,000 winnings became $100,000 when a “2” multiplier was selected.
“I can’t really put into words what I’m feeling,” the winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials a few days after cashing in his winning ticket. “I’m putting it to good use.”
The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 2X multiplier being selected are 1 in 1.79, when the jackpot is $150 million or less.
For selling the claimed ticket, Palm Pantry #33 in West Columbia received a commission of $1,000.
The estimated jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball® drawing is $20 million.
