COLUMBIA, SC (April 11, 2025) – An Upstate husband brought home a $5 lottery ticket, scratched it and then showed his wife. She wasn’t expecting to see a $200,000 win.
“I was speechless,” the wife told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
She says her husband, who likes to play the Lottery, picked out the winning $200,000 Fortune ticket at the Pops Store on Holly Springs Rd. in Lyman.
“He was really excited and wanted to tell everyone,” the wife said. “I wanted to keep it quiet.”
As for their plans for the prize money, the wife says they compromised and spent it on repairs.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said.
The odds of winning $200,000 in the $200,000 Fortune game are 1 in 1,440,000. The game is no longer available for sale.
For selling the claimed ticket, Hare Pritam 2018 Inc. in Lyman received a commission of $2,000.
