COLUMBIA, SC (August 27, 2020) – A Greenwood man came within one number of winning the Powerball® jackpot, but he’s not complaining. His $150,000 consolation prize has him debt free.
“I’m thankful,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
The winner says he checked his Powerball® ticket, a quick pick he purchased at E Z Trip on Hwy. 72 W. in Greenwood, the morning after the Saturday, August 15 drawing (5, 12, 34, 45, 56 and PB: 3).
He saw three numbers matched and looked again and saw he had five numbers to win $50,000. Because he purchased PowerPlay® for an additional $1, his prize tripled to $150,000 when a “3” multiplier was selected.
The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number are 1 in 913,129.
For selling the claimed ticket, E Z Trip in Greenwood received a commission on $1,500.
The estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is $47 million.
