$150,000 Powerball® Ticket Lost Then Found

2/10/2020 8:45:29 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 10, 2020) – A Greer man’s joy over winning the Lottery turned to panic when he thought he’d lost his ticket worth $150,000.

“I couldn’t find it this morning,” he told lottery officials.

He did not stop searching until he found the Powerball® ticket inside an envelope.

“I put it there for safe keeping,” he remembered.

The ticket had been in his wallet for several days before he checked the numbers and discovered he’d matched four of the first five white ball numbers drawn and the red Powerball® number (11, 33, 44, 59, 67 and Powerball® 8) drawn on Wednesday, January 22. As a result of paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay®, his $50,000 winnings became $150,000 when a “3” was drawn.

“This is incredible,” he said.

The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. Purchasing PowerPlay® multiplied the $50,000 prize to $150,000. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.23, when the jackpot is over $150 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, QuikTrip #1105 in Greenville received a commission of $1,500.

The estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball® drawing is $70 million.
