$100,000 Lottery Ticket Misses the Garbage

10/23/2017 10:12:38 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (October 23, 2017) – A Columbia man almost threw away $100,000.

He was checking a stack of old lottery tickets, when he gave one he was about to toss in the trash a second look.

Double checking paid off. The lottery ticket was a $100,000 winner.

“I still don’t believe it,” he said.

He purchased the Palmetto Cash 5 ticket at the Food Lion #1280 on Broad River Rd. in Columbia for the drawing on Friday, October 13 and matched all five numbers drawn (6, 9, 33, 35 and 37).

He says he keeps old tickets in a plastic bag in his truck, and when he has several looks through them to see if he’s won anything.

“I used to keep my tickets on the dresser,” he said. “But when my wife would clean, she’d throw them away.”

The odds of winning $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

For selling the claimed ticket, Food Lion #1280 in Columbia received a commission of $1,000.
