COLUMBIA, SC (January 9, 2017) – A forgotten Powerball® ticket won a Fripp Island woman $50,000 last week. The winnings will help the family recover from storm damage sustained by Hurricane Matthew.
She found the ticket last week in a desk drawer, where it sat undisturbed since she bought it grocery shopping at Publix back in October.
The ticket, a quick pick, matched four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number drawn on October 22 (1, 28, 33, 55, 56 and PB: 22).
The winner did not wish to be identified but expressed great joy and relief over the win.
The odds of winning $50,000 by matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number are 1 in 913,129.
For selling the claimed ticket, Publix Super Markets Inc. #1463 in Beaufort received a commission of $500.
The estimated jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is $106 million.
