Group of Seven State Employees Split $200,000 Powerball® Prize

COLUMBIA, SC (January 10, 2012) – On Christmas Eve seven state employees in Conway won $200,000 playing Powerball®.

Christmas morning, the group’s founder and youngest member, at 26, called her coworkers with the news.

“None of them believed me,” she said laughing. “I was shocked myself.”

Seven months earlier, she convinced her coworkers to start chipping in $1 each for Powerball® tickets. They didn’t see this coming.

To persuade the disbelieving group they were in fact winners, she emailed each a picture of the ticket to see for themselves the first five white ball numbers (14 - 16 - 30 - 51 - 52 – PB 19) matched to win $200,000.

Each pocketed a little over $19,000 in the split.

“I’m saving my share,” said the group’s organizer.

“It was the best Christmas ever,” she admitted.

The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 5,138,133.

Kangaroo Express #3242 in Camden received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
