COLUMBIA, SC (August 25, 2011) – A Marion woman is looking forward to finding out just how far $200,000 will go in this housing market.
She won the down payment playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.
“I’m still going to work,” she said laughing. “But I’m buying a house.”
She told lottery officials when she scratched the Emerald Green 7’s ticket she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. She called her mom, and the two rode to Columbia together to collect the prize.
“I’m so happy,” she said. “I can’t stop smiling.”
The Marion winner claimed the last top prize in the ten dollar Emerald Green 7’s game.
The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 497,142.86.
Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Cruizers 03 in Florence received $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 920,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
