COLUMBIA, SC (February 28, 2011) – Some people are just lucky. On his way to Columbia to cash in a $200,000 winning ticket, a man from Mauldin stopped and bought another lottery ticket. His wife scratched it for him and won $10,000. How does he explain it?
“I told my wife I must have an angel on my shoulder,” he said.
Whether it is divine intervention or not, this isn’t typical.
The odds of winning $200,000 playing the Black ticket are a little more than 1 in 497,000. The odds of winning $10,000 on a Carolina Millionaires Club card, by matching the CASH symbol, are 1 in 120,000. The odds of both happening a day apart, well, are not likely.
The couple is enjoying the lucky streak and plans to test its longevity.
“I think I might buy a ticket on the way home,” the winner said.
Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Quick Stop in Greenville received $2,000 for selling the Black ticket. Kangaroo Express #3441 in Prosperity received $100 for the Carolina Millionaires Club win.
