COLUMBIA, SC (February 14, 2011) – A Summerville man is quite the romantic. He’s planning to take his wife out for a Valentine’s Day dinner. And get this, Romeo is booking a cruise too.
A $100,000 win on an SCEL lottery ticket is footing the bill.
“When I scratched off the whole ticket and saw $100,000, my eyes opened wide, and I started shaking,” he said.
His wife’s reaction: “She screamed,” he said.
The winner told lottery officials he spent a sleepless night with the Instant Carolina 5 ticket tucked inside an envelope on his nightstand.
“I wanted the ticket by me, so I could grab it if the house caught on fire,” he said.
His sleepiness lifted when he was handed the check. He took one look at the amount, $100,000 taxes paid, and kissed it.
Express Petroleum in Summerville sold the winning ticket and received $1,000, a 1 percent retailer commission, when the ticket was claimed.
Odds of winning the top prize on a $5 Instant Carolina 5 ticket are 1 in 500,000. As of this release, three top prize of $100,000 taxes paid remain in the game.
