COLUMBIA, SC (January 6, 2009) – The Powerball® jackpot has climbed to an estimated $105 million for Wednesday night's draw. The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) reminds players to please play responsibly. That said, the Lottery has even more exciting news.
Powerball® is Bigger and Better
With the addition of Florida to the Powerball® group, big changes have occurred. The minimum Powerball® jackpot is now $20 million, up from $15 million. The average Powerball® jackpot has increased from an expected average of $95 million to $141 million. Players who purchase the PowerPlay® multiplier and match five white ball numbers now win $1 million.
Happy Anniversary!
On Wednesday, January 7, 2009, SCEL will celebrate its 7th anniversary. Stop by any of the three SCEL Claims Centers and enjoy a slice of anniversary cake as a way of thanking players. Players who bring in $5 worth of non-winning instant lottery tickets will get a special prize between the hours of 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Visit sceducationlottery.com for Claims Center locations.
From 2002, more than $2 BILLION in lottery proceeds has been appropriated by the General Assembly to support education in the Palmetto State through 2009. In the year that ended June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the SCEL is returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
