COLUMBIA, SC (June 24, 2008) – While her husband was finishing up putting gasoline in the car, a Landrum woman had one request. She asked him to run into the store and get her a Powerball® ticket. He didn’t want to.
“Then I said, ‘I might share it with you if I win,’” she laughed.
He went in and got his wife a ticket. She won $200,000. And yes, she is going to share the winnings with her husband.
“I don’t believe it,” she said in the lobby at the Greenville Claims Center. “It doesn’t seem real.”
The Landrum woman, who wishes not to be identified, matched all five white ball numbers but missed the red Powerball® number in Saturday night’s drawing (7-8-9-31-50, PB 31).
She checked her numbers online Sunday. She didn’t believe what she saw and ran to get her husband. Together they checked the numbers several times, but still weren’t convinced. She tucked the winning ticket away in her purse and waited for Monday.
The claims center confirmed the ticket, purchased from the Li’l Cricket #850 in Landrum, was a winner. The couple is planning to take a vacation and do some renovations to their home.
“What a thrill,” she said. “My husband, he still can’t believe it.”
