Columbia, SC: On Friday, February 13, 2004, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) awarded one North Carolina resident $600,000 taxes paid!

The winner, a 57 year-old woman from the Asheville, NC area received a check for $600,000 taxes paid. She correctly matched all five winning Carolina 5 numbers in the February 10th drawing. The top prize for Carolina 5 is $100,000 taxes paid. However, this lucky winner purchased 6 tickets with the same numbers. The total prize value before taxes totaled over $882,000!

The winning numbers for the drawing were 1 –2 – 3 – 16 – 26.

The lucky winner has played these numbers for over a decade without a big win. The numbers came to her nephew in a dream. She played the numbers in Florida for 10 years and then moved to North Carolina where there is no lottery. When the South Carolina Education Lottery started Carolina 5, she began playing her numbers again.

She was visiting family in Florida when her husband called to tell her the winning numbers.

“I screamed repeatedly a hundred times. I had laryngitis and my daughter was deaf in her right ear for a few minutes,” the winner shared. “When I called my family to share the news, no one believed me.”

The winning tickets were purchased from Handy Dan’s IV #4 in Ridgeland located at 524 East Main Street in Ridgeland.

Plans for the money include buying a new house, investing, and sharing with her five children and grandchildren.

Starting March 1,Carolina 5 is moving. The drawings will occur on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:59 p.m.
