COLUMBIA, SC (September 1, 2023) An Upstate man played Powerball® for a chance at a $750 million jackpot but ended up winning $150,000.

He quick picked some numbers at the Lil B’s Mini Mart #2 at 3802 Old Laurens Hwy. in Greenwood, for the drawing on July 12 (23, 35, 45, 66, 67 and PB: 20). His ticket with PowerPlay® matched all but one of the numbers drawn for the sweet, six-figure payday.

“I’ll take it,” he said of the win.

The South Carolina Education Lottery caught up with the winner this week, and he’s still playing Powerball®. “I’ve only matched the Powerball® number since,” he said. “But I’ve got my tickets for the next one.”

The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. The purchase of PowerPlay® for an additional $1 increased the $50,000 prize to $150,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Lil B’s Mini Mart #2 in Greenwood received a commission of $1,500.
