COLUMBIA, SC (April 6, 2023) – An Upstate man who has played the lottery for decades is now a millionaire.
His luck changed with a Mega Millions® ticket from the Garden Spot at 2050 S. Pine St. in Spartanburg for the drawing on Friday, February 10 (20, 29, 30, 52, 58 and MB: 19). His ticket matched the first five numbers drawn, but missed the Megaball® number to win him $1 million.
“You can’t win unless you play,” the new millionaire told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
And he says he’ll keep playing. “It helps education,” he said.
And the big win is going to help his retirement.
The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions® are 1 in 12,607,306.
For selling the claimed ticket, Garden Spot in Spartanburg received a commission of $10,000.
The estimated Mega Millions® jackpot for Friday night’s drawing is $414 million.
