Second Opinion Sought to Confirm Upstate Man’s $200,000 Win

COLUMBIA, SC (May 9, 2024) – An Upstate man scratched off a $200,000 lottery win and needed a second opinion.

“I wasn’t sure it was true,” he admitted to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

So he took the ticket back inside the QuikTrip #1117 on Hwy. 86 in Piedmont to have it scanned. The store clerk obliged and told him that he would need to take his ticket to Columbia.

“I was pretty sure I won then,” he said.

The winner says he wasn’t planning to play the Lottery when he agreed to go to the store with a friend. When he got there, he decided to take a chance on a $5 MONOPOLY scratch-off. He’s glad he did. His win leaves one top prize of $200,000 remaining in the game. The odds of winning it are 1 in 720,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, QuikTrip #1117 in Piedmont received a commission of $2,000.
