Low Fuel Light Leads to $1 Million Lottery Win for Upstate Family

COLUMBIA, SC (September 4, 2019) – A stop for gas when the low fuel warning light came on in their car led an Upstate family to a $1 million lottery win this week.

The husband pulled over at the Corner Mart #53 on Hwy 101 in Greer to fill up and decided to buy a lottery ticket to take home to his wife, who he says never remembers to put gas in the car.

“And I’m never putting gas in the car again,” the wife told lottery officials when the couple, from Taylors, cashed in their winning $1 million ticket.

She says her husband looked like he was going to have a heart attack when they discovered they’d won.

“Never in a million years did I think we’d win the Lottery,” he said.

The family is planning to trip to Disney World to celebrate.

The Taylors couple overcame odds of 1 in 1.72 million to win the first top prize in the $10 Millionaire Series game. Two $1 million top prizes remain in the game.

Corner Mart #53 received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Players can enter their non-winning Millionaire Series tickets into a second-chance drawing for a chance to win an additional $1 million prize. For complete details on the Millionaire Series Second-Chance Drawing, please visit sclottery.com.

To date, the South Carolina Education Lottery has created 189 millionaires.
