“Best Monday Ever” for Hartsville Lottery Winner

COLUMBIA, SC (July 12, 2016) – Fitzgerald Peterson had a great Monday.

“It was the best Monday ever,” Peterson, who started the week off with a $250,000 lottery win, said.

Before going to work yesterday, the Hartsville resident cashed in a winning $500 Frenzy ticket.

Peterson told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he bought the ticket on Friday at the Piggly Wiggly on S. 5th St., and then forgot about it until Monday morning. The ticket spent the weekend out in his car.

“I cried,” he said when he called his sister to tell her he’d just won a quarter-of-a-million dollars.

He called his brother next. Peterson was in the Piggly Wiggly picking up items for his brother, when he bought the ticket.

“You have to be kidding me,” was his brother’s response.

And he’s saving his most important notification for last. He wants to surprise his kids by helping them with their college educations.

Peterson is the third in a string of winners from Hartsville. In June a player won $1 million and another Hartsville player won $300,000.

As of this release, one top prize of $250,000 remains in the $500 Frenzy game. The odds of winning $250,000 are 1 in 696,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Piggly Wiggly #35 in Hartsville received a commission of $2,500.
