COLUMBIA, SC (January 3, 2019) – A Columbia man’s approach to playing the lottery hasn’t changed much in 16 years. Before scratching a ticket, he always stops to ask himself the same question: “Is this the big one?”
Days before Christmas, the answer was “Yes.”
He won $125,000 on a ticket he suspected was unlucky, since it was the first ticket on a new roll. He’s glad he was wrong.
“I was shocked,” he told lottery officials while seated with his wife at the Lottery’s claims center yesterday. “I’ve never had this kind of money.”
His wife says they were happy before winning the lottery and are just as happy now.
“But it will be nice to have a little extra money,” she added.
Three top prizes of $125,000 remain in the $5 Quick $250! game, at odds of 1 in 480,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, J and S Food Mart #8 in Columbia received a commission of $1,250.
