On the Way to the Beach, Myrtle Beach Tourist Wins $100,000

COLUMBIA, SC (August 13, 2015) – What did you do this summer? An Alabama family vacationing in Myrtle Beach this week can say, “We won the Lottery!”

Almost to the beach the family stopped to let the kids use the restroom. While at the Kangaroo Express #3140 on Hwy. 9 in Little River, Louis Hudson, one of the 22 family members on the trip, bought a lottery ticket for $5 and won $100,000.

“Everybody is still in shock,” he said on Monday when he took a detour to Columbia to cash in his winning ticket. “This wasn’t in the plan.”

Hudson says now he can enjoy the rest of his vacation, because carrying $100,000 around in your pocket is stressful. He says he hasn’t been in the ocean and didn’t ride jet skis with the family because he was too afraid he might drown or get a shark bite before he could cash in his winning ticket.

“We are going back to our vacation,” he said. “This is my first trip to Myrtle Beach and I plan to come back.”

The Birmingham, Alabama winner won the last top prize of $100,000 in the $5 20X game, at odds of 1 in 480,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express #3140 in Little River received a commission of $1,000.
