COLUMBIA, SC (January 20, 2016) – Thank goodness a Columbia man’s wife hadn’t done the laundry.
Inside the husband’s pants pocket was a Powerball® ticket worth $100,000.
The winner discovered the ticket on Monday, checked the numbers, and after work yesterday cashed in.
“I didn’t even know I had it,” he said, still coming to terms with missing last Wednesday’s $1.5 billion jackpot by one number.
The ticket from the Murphy USA #7530 on Garners Ferry Rd. in Columbia, a store that sold a $259 million jackpot winning ticket seven years ago, matched five of the six numbers drawn to win $50,000. PowerPlay® multiplied his prize to $100,000.
“My wife told me to be thankful I won what I did,” he said. “She wanted to wash my pants.”
The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 2X multiplier being selected are 1 in 1.75.
For selling the claimed ticket, Murphy USA #7057 in Columbia received a commission of $1,000.
The estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is $50 million.
