COLUMBIA, SC (February 6, 2014) – A lottery retailer in the small town of Hemingway sold 21 Pick 4 tickets to customers that won a combined $78,600.

The winners played 1 – 9 – 5 – 2 on all the tickets for the January 30 evening Pick 4 drawing.

While the winners are not saying why those numbers were chosen, you have to suspect 1952 was a good year for them. If not, it is now.

The total cost of the tickets was $21, bought at Bettys Quick Stop on N. Main St. in Hemingway.

Of the 21 Pick 4 tickets purchased, 10 were played straight, meaning the numbers had to match in the exact order draw to win $5,000 each. The remaining 11 tickets were a straight/box play, meaning the numbers could match in the exact order or any order drawn to win $2,600 apiece.

Bettys Quick Stop, a family run business, recently overtook the top spot to lead Williamsburg County in lottery sales.

Incidentally, a 10 minute walk from Bettys down Main St. leads you to Tanner’s Express Mart, where a $1 million scratch-off was sold in May of 2007.

Odds of winning $5,000 playing Pick 4 are 1 in 10,000. Odds of winning $2,600 are 1 in 417.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.2 BILLION transferred to support education.
