COLUMBIA, SC (March 22, 2013) – Customers at East Side Grocery in Bennettsville are hoping for a repeat performance after owner Zaki Khattab sold a $200,000 winning ticket to one of his regulars.

According to Khattab, ticket sales are up at the location on Everett St. signaling his store is a lucky spot. He previously sold a ticket worth $20,000.

The $200,000 prize was won by a man from Wallace, who does not wish to be identified, in late January.

The winner told lottery officials he was driving home when he had a feeling he should turn the car around and go back to buy a lottery ticket. He headed to East Side Grocery and picked out a Double Mega Tripler scratch-off. He paid $10 for the ticket that won him $200,000 standing in the store’s parking lot.

“It’s been a blessing,” said the winner, who generously paid off his brother’s house.

The act of kindness comes as no surprise to Khattab.

“I have good customers, really nice people,” Khattab said.

For selling the claimed ticket, East Side Grocery received a commission of $2,000.

As of this release, three top prizes of $200,000 remain in the Double Mega Tripler game. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 428,571.43.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $3 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
