COLUMBIA, SC (April 30, 2012) – A Johns Island man walked in the Kangaroo Express #848 in Johns Island to buy a newspaper to check his Powerball® ticket. Before leaving he bought a scratch-off ticket.

He won $4 on the Powerball® ticket. The $10 Pyramid Riches scratch-off was worth $250,000.

“I’m ecstatic,” he said, telling lottery officials the last few years had been difficult for him and his wife.

“This win will bail us out,” he said.

According to the winner, his wife can’t stop talking about the winning ticket.

“She was going through everything we could do like take a vacation and this and that,” he said.

“I told her we aren’t spending anything,” he said. “Not yet.”

As of this release, three top prizes of $250,000 remain in the $10 Pyramid Riches game.

The odds of winning $250,000 are 1 in 576,000.

Kangaroo Express #848 received a commission of $2,500 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.7 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
