COLUMBIA, SC (March 13, 2012) – A retired Newberry man has won $200,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The winner was riding around town in his just washed car doing something he admits wasn’t smart, scratching a lottery ticket while driving. He pulled off the road and put his glasses on to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.

“About time,” he said.

He laid the ticket worth $200,000 in the seat next to him and headed home.

“I was looking at that ticket all night,” he said, thinking of how it was going to help his family.

“I’ve got some more tickets out in the car to scratch,” he said. “I might be back.”

As of this release, one top prize of $200,000 remains in the $10 Platinum Payout game.

The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 375,000.

Piedmont Petro Corner Mart #44 in Newberry received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
