COLUMBIA, SC (January 26, 2012) – A Greenville Tech student skipped class after scratching a lottery ticket worth $100,000 in the school’s parking lot.
The Laurens native has been buying scratch-offs since she turned 18.
“My dad always played, and I guess that’s why I play,” she said. “I remember Friday nights he would come home from work with a ticket, and I’d watch him scratch it.”
She can’t wait to surprise her dad with the news and her plans for the cash.
“I want to open my own business,” she said, “a boutique.”
The winner is incidentally a lottery scholarship recipient. Part of her tuition and books at Greenville Tech are paid with lottery proceeds.
She jokes with her dad when she loses, “At least I’m supporting my education.”
As of this release, two top prize of $100,000 remain in the $5 Big Money game.
The odds of winning $100,000 are 1 in 540,000.
Hickory Point #50 in Simpsonville received a commission of $1,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
