“I was sweating,” he told lottery officials describing the $400,000 realization.
He called his sister, who’s played Palmetto Cash 5 for just as long as he has, with the news.
“He was calm, too calm,” she said. “I’d have been screaming.”
It was a computer generated Quick Pick purchased from Mercers Country Store on Red Hill Road in Camden that gave the winner the best night’s sleep he’s had in a long time.
Disappointed she didn’t buy a ticket for Monday night’s drawing, the winner’s sister told lottery officials on Tuesday when her brother claimed the prize that she would be buying a ticket for the next one.
Management at Mercers County Store reports lottery sales are up since the news broke and folks are curious who the winner is.
He’s not releasing his name, but plans to share his good fortune with family.
For selling the claimed Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, Mercers County Store received a commission of $4,000. The location has been selling tickets for about a year.
The odds of winning $400,000 are 1 in 4,015,536.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
