COLUMBIA, SC (October 11, 2011) – Deana Alcott can’t believe she won $20,000 on a $2 South Carolina Education Lottery ticket.

She figured it had to be a mistake.

“I went back into the store in shock,” she said. “I was holding the ticket like I was scared of it.”

The folks at the Whitehall Express Mart in Anderson had a hard time convincing Alcott her Tattoo Doubler ticket was a legitimate winner.

“No, this is a prank, and ya’ll got me good,” Alcott said while looking around the store for a hidden camera expecting someone to pop out and say it was a joke.

No joke.

When reality sank in, Alcott started hugging everyone inside the Whitehall Express Mart.

Alcott plans to start college accounts for her kids and purchase a used car.

“Unbelievable,” she said.

As of this release, four top prizes of $20,000 remain in the $2 Tattoo Doubler game.

The odds of winning $20,000 are 1 in 270,000.

Whitehall Express Mart in Anderson received a commission of $200 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 932,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
