COLUMBIA, SC (June 23, 2011) – Two fellows from Anderson aren’t letting $1 MILLION change them.
“We’re simple folk,” said one of the gentlemen.
“I’m happy to have it,” admitted the other.
The pair has been playing the South Carolina Education Lottery together for years, but their luck changed when one of them checked the Mega Millions® results in the Anderson Independent Mail. He was speechless.
“I couldn’t keep the ticket,” stated the winner. “I was scared something was going to happen to it or if I kept it too long the numbers might fade.”
His buddy held onto the ticket for two weeks.
“We were letting it soak in,” said the keeper of the ticket. “We wanted to wait for the right day.”
That day was yesterday. The guys presented the Lottery with the ticket matching all five white ball numbers (29 – 32 – 35 – 47 – 52 MB: 13) for the June 7 Mega Millions® drawing. The winners paid the extra $1 for the Megaplier®. Had they not, their prize would have been $250,000 instead of $1 million.
The prize for matching five white balls with Megaplier® is an automatic $1 million, regardless of the multiplier selected.
“We want to look further than today,” said one of the men awaiting the check. “We want to help many generations of our families with this blessing.”
Now that the prize has been paid, MD Food Mart in Anderson has received $10,000, a 1 percent retailer commission.
The estimated Mega Millions® jackpot for Friday is $76 million.
