COLUMBIA, SC (September 10, 2012) – A new washer and dryer have been delivered to the home of the Lottery’s latest quarter-of-a-million dollar winner.
A practical purchase to start things off for an Indian Land woman who won $250,000 in the August 17 Mega Millions® drawing.
“Everybody dreams about winning the Lottery,” she said, but the reality of the moment was almost too much for her. “I was a mess,” she admitted.
When she realized the first five numbers on her ticket matched (8, 20, 24, 35 and 56) she happened to be parked outside of a convenience store. When she stepped out of the car her legs failed her.
“I about broke my legs trying to get into the store with the ticket,” she said. “I wish I could see the store video of me screaming.”
She would have collapsed had the Megaball® number (24) synched up to win her the jackpot or if she had spent the extra $1 for Megaplier® to increase her prize to $1 million. The odds of winning $250,000 are 1 in 3,904,701.
“I feel wonderful anyway,” she said. “I’m putting in a pool.”
For selling the claimed Mega Millions® ticket, Food Lion #2204 in Fort Mill received a commission of $2,500.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
