Gadsden Lottery Winner Goes To Bed Without Dinner

COLUMBIA, SC (June 8, 2011) – A Gadsden woman skipped dinner after winning $200,000 on a South Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The winner told lottery officials she had takeout food in the car when she stopped at the Pitt Stop #22 on Garners Ferry Rd. in Columbia for gas and lottery tickets.

She scratched four $200,000 Cash tickets in the passenger seat as she was driven home to eat. The first three tickets were not winners. The last ticket was a keeper!

“I couldn’t eat,” she said after seeing all the zeros.

With dinner getting cold, she kept calm searching for a safe spot to store the ticket overnight.

She settled on the sock drawer.

The winner plans to use the winnings to take a vacation.
As of this release, six top prizes of $200,000 remain in the $200,000 Cash game. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 411,428.57.

The Columbia retailer received $2,000, a 1 percent retailer commission.

Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
