COLUMBIA, SC (July 12, 2011) – A Rock Hill man rode in a U-Haul holding a $100,000 lottery ticket.
The family was helping his little sister move when they stopped for gas at the Easy Shop IV in Rock Hill where he bought and scratched the winning Bass Pro Shops® instant ticket.
The winner, who did not want to release his name, told lottery officials he stayed calm while his siblings and the clerk that sold him the ticket were jumping up and down.
Once the U-Haul was unloaded, they celebrated taking turns posing for pictures with the winning ticket.
The family might be reuniting for another move.
“I’m getting a place,” said the winner.
The Rock Hill man claimed the last $100,000 top prize in the $5 Bass Pro Shops® game.
The odds of winning $100,000 are 1 in 520,000.
Players can still enter their non-winning Bass Pro Shops® tickets in the Bass Pro Shops® Second-Chance Promotion for a chance to win an Adventure Trip of a Lifetime or the $100,000 grand prize. For details, visit sceducationlottery.com.
Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Easy Shop IV received $1,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 920,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been appropriated to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
