COLUMBIA, SC (May 9, 2011) – A Simpsonville couple tucked the kids in and relaxed by scratching a couple of instant tickets.

Standing at the kitchen counter, the mother’s $5 ticket won $100,000. Dad’s ticket wasn’t as lucky.

“It’s a good Mother’s Day gift, but I should have hid that ticket till Father’s Day,” joked the husband that bought the winning Black Pearls ticket at Piedmont Petro Corner Mart #20.

The couple traveled to Columbia on Friday to cash in the ticket. They brought a camera with them.

“Smile, you’re holding your college fund,” said the dad to his oldest posing with the check.

As of this release, three top prizes of $100,000 remain in the Black Pearls game. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 480,000.

The Simpsonville retailer received $1,000, a 1 percent retailer commission.

Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
