COLUMBIA, SC (May 24, 2011) – With $5 left over from filling up her car, a Belton woman bought a lottery ticket and won $100,000.

“It feels wonderful to win,” the winner said. “I’ve never won anything in my life.”

Customers at the Stop-A-Minit #14 on Pearman Dairy Rd. in Anderson felt her joy when they heard her screaming in the parking lot after she scratched the Black Pearls ticket. She ran inside to check with the clerk to make sure she wasn’t seeing things, and a celebration broke out in the store.

The winner called her mom at work to tell her the news and ask her to travel to Columbia with her to cash in the ticket.

“We probably spent the money 10 times coming down the road,” said the winner’s mother.

They talked about the possibility of a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle and a pool. The winner settled on paying off her car and house. A trip to the Caribbean may also be in the cards.

“She is such a giving person,” said the winner’s mother telling her daughter’s good deeds. “I’ve seen her buy an elderly couple’s dinner for them when we’ve been out at a restaurant. Good things do come to those that do good for others.”

As of this release, two top prizes of $100,000 remain in the $5 Black Pearls game. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 480,000.

Stop-A-Minit #14 in Anderson received $1,000, a 1 percent retailer commission for selling the claimed ticket.

Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
