COLUMBIA, SC (June 2, 2009) – “Am I reading this correctly?” That’s what a 29-year-old man thought when the $10 Carolina Millionaires Club instant ticket he scratched revealed a $1 million top prize!
The player, who wants to keep his name private, bought the lucky ticket at Kwik Fill, located at 1252 Yeaman’s Hall Road in Hanahan. The retailer who sells a claimed ticket worth more than $10,000 receives a selling bonus. Kwik Fill received a $10,000 selling bonus.
“It’s great,” said owner, Sam Adgani. “We are happy the ticket came from our store. We wish the winner all the best,” he added.
The new millionaire says winning this much money is hard to believe. He plans to share his prize with the people who helped him get through school.
Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
