COLUMBIA, SC (September 5, 2007) – Palatable pulled pork and bountiful barbeque didn’t grab the only top prize at the 2nd Annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival in Myrtle Beach over the Labor Day holiday!

The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) gave away thousands of dollars in cash and trips to pre-selected finalists in the “THAT’S THE TICKET” summer promotion! Eight contestants took center stage to scratch off giant Cash Bonanza Riches tickets to reveal their fabulous prizes. Four contestants received $5,000 in cash, and four finalists captured the grand prize of a splendid first-class trip, valued at $50,000. The grand prize winners can choose to travel to one of three exciting destinations: New York City, Las Vegas or Hollywood. Trip winners also receive four- or five-star hotel accommodations, luggage, a digital camera, an iPod® nano and $25,000 cash! The grand prize winners are: Jessica Anderson, Columbia; Chrissie Cofield, Clinton; Chuck Godwin, Charleston; and Cecile Register, Ruffin. The $5,000 cash winners are: Lewis Huffman, Columbia; Kathy McCrackin, Summervile; Demetrius Price, N. Charleston; and Ken Stone, Morrisville, NC.

“The enthusiasm of our contestants was overwhelming,” said SCEL Executive Director Ernest L. Passailaigue, Jr. “Their excitement on stage as their prizes were revealed was contagious throughout the crowd.”

SCEL sold both online and instant tickets during the festival. Gross sales totaled more than $10,000! “These sales are impressive. They are indicative of the community’s support of the Lottery and its commitment to education,” said SCEL Director of Marketing and Product Development David Barden. “Festival planners did an incredible job organizing this fun and entertaining event. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and that hospitality is an awesome testament to the people of this coastal community,” Barden continued.

Since its inception in 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery has launched more than 220 instant games and five online games. Currently, SCEL offers approximately 30 instant games and four online games at more than 3,500 lottery retailers statewide. Traditionally, SCEL produces three to four new games each month in a variety of themes, play styles, and price points of $1 - $10. During the past five years, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.73 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
