SCEL’s Powerball® players have won more than $5.8 million since beginning of year!
COLUMBIA, SC (February 26, 2008) – A quick trip to the convenience store proved a lucky stop for an Upstate man when on a whim he purchased a Powerball® ticket. That ticket held five of the six winning Powerball® numbers chosen during the Wednesday, February 20 drawing and translated into a $200,000 prize!
The winner, who chooses to keep his identity private, says he did not realize he had won so much money. “I thought the amount was about $500. I didn’t know until I checked the numbers at home on my computer that I’d won $200,000! It’s still hard to believe,” the player said.
The South Carolina native is considering ways to spend his winnings. “I’ve been in the market for a new house for a while. Now I might move a little faster,” he said.
The 30-year-old man quick picked his Powerball® numbers. He says he plays Powerball® and occasionally Palmetto Cash 5. He purchased his winning ticket at Sav Way #209 in Gray Court.
The winning white numbers in the February 20 drawing were 9, 12, 20, 22, and 36. The red Powerball® was 31 and the PowerPlay® was 3. The jackpot was $100 million! Another $200,000 winning Powerball® ticket was sold in Sumter. That player has not come forward to claim the prize.
