SCEL RELEASES FIRST AMBER ALERT!

Columbia, SC: On January 8, 2004, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) broadcasted its first SC AMBER Alert to more than 3,400 on-line terminals. These terminals also dispense tickets for games such as Pick 3, Pick 4, Carolina 5 and Powerball®.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) released the AMBER Alert late Wednesday afternoon to all of its partners. Once the SCEL received the information, a terminal message, on the Customer Display Unit, directed customers to ask the cashier for more details.

The message reads as follows:

3 CHILDREN ABDUCTED 3 year old Tammy Jones 2 feet tall 30lbs blnd hair blue eyes, 4 year old Brandy Jones 2 feet tall 25lbs blnd hair and blue eyes and 10 year old Brittany Phelps 4 feet tall 50lbs brn shoulder length hair and blue eyes. They were abducted from Gordon County Georgia at 11 AM on Jan 8 2004.Police are looking for a white male, 30 years old, 150lbs with brown shoulder length hair and green eyes wearing glasses. Suspect is driving a 91 FORD EXPLORER with GA tags number 730YFV.

Lottery retailers are asked to print and post the abduction information in their stores, increasing the distributions and visibility of vital details at no cost to the state.

The SCEL became a partner with the SC AMBER Alert system on August 27, 2003.
