“I’m still pinching myself,” says Upstate Powerball® Winner

COLUMBIA, SC (January 13, 2023) It’s been a month since an Upstate woman cashed in a $200,000 Powerball® win. “I’m still pinching myself,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

She was buying another Powerball® ticket at the Speedway #4573 at 2500 Poinsett Hwy. in Greenville when she asked the clerk to check her old one.  She was told she would have to go to Columbia to collect the prize.

It wasn’t until later that she realized how big a payday she was due.  Her ticket for the Monday, October 24 drawing matched four of the first five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number (18 - 23 - 35 - 45 - 54 and PB: 16).  Paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay® quadrupled her $50,000 win to $200,000.

From the Lottery’s Claims Center in Columbia, she texted her husband the prize was really theirs.  He texted back, “I love you.” And she replied, “I love me too.”

The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 4X multiplier being selected are 1 in 14 when the jackpot is more than $150 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, Speedway #4573 in Greenville received a commission of $2,000.
