$1.6 BILLION Powerball® Jackpot Sets World Record

11/4/2022 12:10:54 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (November 4, 2022)Strong ticket sales leading up to Saturday night’s Powerball® drawing have pushed the jackpot to $1.6 BILLION, a new world record.

That’s $782 million in cash to whoever can stop this jackpot run that began in early August. Saturday’s drawing will mark the 40th draw in the run, the longest run until a winner is 41.

The Lottery has a message for those looking to win the $1.6 billion prize: It only takes one ticket.

South Carolina's 2009 Powerball® jackpot winner is proof of that.  The winner purchased a single ticket for $2 and won a $259 million jackpot. Now is not the time to overindulge. Play smart, play in moderation, and please, play responsibly.

To win, you must overcome odds of about 1 in 293 million. And the odds are the same for every ticket.

South Carolinians looking to take a chance on Saturday’s drawing, must purchase their tickets by 9:59 p.m. for the 10:59 p.m. drawing.

The previous world record was a $1.586 billion Powerball® jackpot won back in January of 2016.
